Loss, no matter how much you've gone through it, can tear you apart

I lost my Abbey a week ago. We were inseparable. Where else would we be if not at each other’s side? I wasn’t prepared to lose her, as if there’s some magical button you can push to make the pain go away. No one had ever told me pugs had short life spans. She was only twelve and I knew we’d be together for many more years.

I have so many wonderful memories. She performed this strange ritual when she wanted to go outside. It was the best choreographed performance I’d ever seen. Spinning around while barking, she paused frequently to see if she had our attention. How could we miss her!

There are so many more, but it hurts too much to share now. Eventually, I’ll adopt another friend, but there will never be another Abbey.
